Detroit, Michigan – June 17, 2020
After years waiting to become American citizens, dozens of immigrants were naturalized in their cars by a judge wearing a plastic face shield. Federal Magistrate Judge Patricia Morris of Bay City performed the ceremony from a podium erected at a parking structure at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services headquarters on Detroit’s east side. Without leaving their cars, they raised their right hands and vowed to be good and law-abiding Americans.
